Application of latex cement and latex asphalt

In addition to being used directly in the manufacture of various latex products, the latex has been extended to other fields, with the most extensive construction. More mature latex rubber and latex asphalt.

(1) Latex cement

Latex cement is a new building material modified by polymer (latex). It has the advantages of high strength, freeze resistance, chemical resistance, impact resistance and wear resistance. It can be used in high-rise buildings, highway construction, airport runways and urban construction. And so on.

The manufacturing process is to first stir the latex with cement, sand, fine stone, etc., and mix it evenly to obtain an elastic adhesive material, and then apply for pouring. Compared with ordinary cement/mortar, latex cement has the advantages of high flexural strength, good toughness, wear resistance, good adhesion to other building materials, and low water resistance and shrinkage. Moreover, it has a wide range of applications. In addition to replacing general cement mortar, it can also be used as ship and ship deck paving. As a sealing material in the desalination device, it also has a good effect and is convenient to construct. The formulation design of latex cement is quite simple. Generally, a certain amount of stabilizer, such as casein, can be added to the latex to keep the system stable.

(2) Latex asphalt

Asphalt is the main material widely used on highway pavements. Its fatal shortcoming is poor temperature adaptability, including easy cracking at low temperatures and easy melting at high temperatures. These disadvantages are often overcome effectively with the addition of elastomers. For this reason, the latex can be added to the asphalt to modify it. When applying, firstly mix the latex and other components, including oil (improving low temperature resistance), 2402 phenolic resin, accelerator, magnesium oxide and other ingredients. The low temperature flexibility, elasticity, elongation, strength and toughness of the modified latex asphalt are significantly improved, and the adhesion to various materials is also greatly improved.

Latex asphalt can be mainly used for paving and repairing roads. It can also be used for submarine cable sealing, underground waterproofing, tunnel sealing and roof waterproofing. The variety of latex also plays a considerable role in the modification. From the modification principle, it should be partially dissolved and swelled by the asphalt, and only in this way can the properties of the elastomer be brought to the asphalt. From the modification effect, the neoprene latex is the best, the styrene-butadiene latex is the second choice, and the natural latex is the third choice. The texture of the asphalt itself is also related to the modification effect. For example, the use of asphalt with a high content of arsenic is often inferior.

The mixing of the latex and the asphalt is carried out under heating and stirring, and the process is roughly as follows: the asphalt is first heated to melt, and then the latex is added while stirring. The specific amount to be added is determined according to the use, and is generally from 1% to 5%. The resin is added to improve adhesion. The cooking temperature of latex asphalt should be ≥150 °C, but not more than 200 °C. The cooking time can be controlled at about 1h. Since the moisture content of the latex will continue to vaporize during the cooking process, it should be removed.
